Susie is a successful former professional Paralympic swimmer who competed at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, winning six medals across both Games including gold in the 50m Butterfly in Rio and five bronze medals. Throughout her career, Susie has won 30 international medals at all levels of competition, including 17 gold.
She holds a degree in Modern Languages from Newcastle University, a postgraduate diploma from the Financial Times in Non-Executive Director leadership and has studied professional courses through Stanford University, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and Harvard Kennedy School.
Susie is an expert consultant for global clients and currently works for the UK Government in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office as a Technical Adviser on Disability Inclusion. She has advised the UK’s Development Finance Institution and numerous global investment programmes on global health and economic development, pioneering new disability inclusive approaches, designs, and strategies. In addition to her career in sport, she is also an expert panel member of the Global Disability Advisory Panel at the British Council and a sought-after public speaker.
She has worked in the elite sport sector and with young people to promote education and cultural mobility programmes across different countries. An experienced non-executive director, she recently joined the Independent Advisory Board of emPOWER, a health technology consortium based at Bristol University and is a director of Spirit of 2012, the legacy charity born out of the London 2012 Games.
Patron of various charities, an ocean ambassador for the Marine Conservation Society in the UK, Susie was awarded an MBE (2017) for services to Paralympic sport by Her Majesty the Queen and became a Young Global Leader with the World Economic Forum in 2018.
